Action Plan Template for Personal and Business Goal Setting
Have you been searching for an action plan template you could use to help you reach some of your personal goals? While the term “action plan” is almost exclusively associated with businesses and large organizations, it can also be used to help individuals clarify their personal goals and the steps that need to be taken to reach them. In this article we will give a brief definition of the term “action plan” as it applies to personal development, and show you how you can create and use one of these documents to help guide you as you pursue any number of personal goals and objectives.
What Is an Action Plan?
If you wanted to drive to somewhere you’ve never been, say, to Oklahoma from California, how would you get there? Would you get in your car and drive aimlessly about, hoping you might run into your destination by accident? Or would you look at a map and carefully plan your trip? If you’re like most people, you probably chose the latter, but the real question is this: Are you taking the same steps in your personal life to “get to where you want to go?”
An action plan is like a map or a blueprint that clearly spells out each of the goals you want to accomplish in your life. It is also used to define how those goals will be achieved—steps called objectives—and the timeline for reaching each goal. Action plans can help stop you from “driving aimlessly about” in your life, and instead keep your energy focused on achieving those things in life which are important to you, and achieving them in a timely manner.
An Action Plan Template
When searching for an action plan template online, you’ll want to ensure it includes items that match your purpose. Typically, an action plan template should include all of the following:
• Name. At the top of your action plan template you’ll want to include your name—if this is a personal action plan—or your company’s name if this a business action plan.
• Long Term Goals. Long term goals can best be defined as end results. Only you can define what these goals are, and there should be no limitations here. In this section you could include practical things like buying a home, or perhaps things a bit impractical such as taking a European vacation.
• Objectives. Objectives, sometimes called short-term goals, are the steps you will need to take in order to achieve your long-term goals. For example, if your long-term goal was to buy a house, your objectives could include things such as working more overtime at work and saving $200 a week. The more descriptive and tangible your objectives are, the better the chance you will stay on track.
• Timeline. No goal or objective is complete without a realistic timeline for reaching it. Defining the timeline in which you plan to reach each goal and objective can help give you the motivation necessary to complete it.
An action plan template is a great tool for businesses and individuals alike. It helps to clearly define where you are going, how you plan to get there and in what time frame, and when used correctly, can serve as a visual reminder of what needs to be accomplished each day.
